Photomanips Evolved and moved

Fri Nov 6, 2009, 5:16 PM
Left my old account a while ago and made this'un. Decided today to start making new photomanips and put them back on my dear old account *mypunknightmare

BTW.
Comments on my manips here are disabled.

I am in a pissy mood. You know, if an artist wants a critique, give them a critique, not some half "maybe..." or "this is the wrong color horse" or some stupid comment you would give to 50 other people who manipulate the same friggin subject. You know why? People moan and cry about reactions to critiques but some miss out on the fact a good deal of them are a waste of comment or critique space. There are basics in art that are more like rules rather than something subjective, such as lighting, composition, color and so on and so forth. So when critiquing said basics, at least know about them before critiquing. And second, if you have something you want to critique have your opinion and stand behind it. Don't be a pushover, if you think your experience will help the artist then make that clear, don't bounce around from thought to thought not seeming to know what you are talking about or writing about.

And horse manipulators CRITIQUE SOMETHING DAMN DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER HORSE MANIPERS. All you guys seem to like to critique are : if the horse is smudged, the lighting, and the friggin manes and tails. FOR GODS SAKES ACTUALLY CRITIQUE A PIECE. (Not saying this applies to everyone, but from a lot of critiques I have received AND read it seems like a lot of girls in the horse manip community don't know the basics let alone how to bolster or help fellow manipers in a constructive way.)

But faden, you just don't know how to take a critique!!
Really? I don't? huh, well I was recently critiqued on this work:[link] and i think i took that well.

Last, if you are an advanced photomanipulator you have enough knowledge to say "this part of the manip is off in this way because..." "instead you should try to...." "my personal technique is..." and if you can't say that then don't bother trying to write a critique. It's not about nitpicking at a piece or telling someone how YOU would create an image. It's about taking the basics, telling the person how the image inspired you, being able to find and correct technical mistakes/ helping the person fix their mistakes, and possibly even sharing your own experience. If you don't have the time to write a full critique DON'T DO IT. It's just that easy. And if you want to make sure you catch everything about the image and know everything you want to say, bookmark the image, save the image, look back at it a couple of times, zoom into it.....PUT IN THE EFFORT to critiquing it.

All in all you don't help anyone if you half ass a critique. Period. And a good amount of artists here on DA are here to learn not to become a replication of someone else and certainly not to have the same stupid thing said over and over and over again when they see it being said to beginners.
